What is Political Friendship?
John von Heyking, University of Lethbridge
Friendship is the lingua franca of politics and, generally, how we conceive of our common life together. Most regard the political significance of friendship for politics in terms of cronyism or partisanship. Yet, friendship must operate at a deeper level than that in order for our common life to flourish. With the help of the writings of some philosophers, and of some examples of statesmen, I shall discuss how friendship can form and sustain our common lives together.
Dr. John von Heyking, Professor of Political Science at the University of Lethbridge (Alberta, Canada), will guest lecture on the question "What is Political Friendship?" as part of the Agora Fellows Reading Group on "Work and Play."
Space is limited for this event. For more information on how to get involved, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
